Legendary pop star Rick Springfield has been arrested Sunday night on suspicion of drunk driving. A report from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department was released stating that the singer was speeding in his 1963 Corvette on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu at around 8 pm.
The rock star, now 61, was stopped by sheriff’s deputies after driving too fast and eventually failed his sobriety test. He was then taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police. Results of the singer’s breath analysis clearly showed that his blood-alcohol level was way beyond California’s limit of 0.08; Rick’s was at 0.10. It was reported that Springfield “exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication.”
He was released at around 2 am on Monday and was given a court appearance schedule on July 5. The singer’s publicist, Kim Jackwerth, has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
Rick Springfield became popular via his hit song “Jessie’s Girl” in 1981. It became the no. 1 song when MTV was launched at that time. The Australian singer was just 31 when he made his hit. He was also starting his acting career as Dr. Noah Drake on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital.” According to the rocker, his musical motivation hasn’t changed over the years and he’s still working as hard as he did in the earlier years.
He recently launched his autobiography entitled “Late, Late at Night.” The book was given good reviews as Rick bravely opened up about his own struggles and depression, the ups and downs of his music career, and his past relationships especially that with Linda Blair when he was just 25 and Linda at the tender age of 15. Even his suicide attempts were all documented. The book made it to the New York Times Best Seller list.
