There are many ways parents can do to check if their kids are on drugs. There are many home drug tests available that can detect drugs that many teens today are hooked in. Should there be doubt on the results of these tests, parents can always consult professionals and laboratories for confirmation.
A criterion for considering an effective drug test method is its accuracy in determining the presence of the drug or its metabolites from biological fluids or tissues of the subject. These drug tests can be complicated; the accuracy of such methods will be affected by the sensitivity or the amount of drug intake, the type of drug detected, and some pharmacological factors like drug dose, the drug’s way of entering the body, and the time the drug is taken.
Before going into the process drug testing, the following guidelines should first be satisfied:
1. test material should be obtained easily and in a non-invasive pattern
2. the drug or its metabolites should be present in the test material and identified accurately
3. the test material should contain a significant amount of the drug or its metabolites to be detected and to avoid false negative results
4. the concentration of the drug and the dose taken should also be known
5. there should be no contamination of the test material to avoid false and confusing results
6. the appearance and disappearance of the drug in the material should be consistent with the purpose of testing for recent or long-term drug use
