Nicotine Products That May Be Dangerous to Your Health

Several nicotine products claim to be useful tools to quit smoking. Because these products have no substantial proofs to present on their efficacy and may pose danger not only to adults who use them but also to poor innocent children, they have been tagged as products to watch out for and have not gained the FDA’s approval.

electronic cigarette1. Electronic Cigarettes – It looks like a cigarette, but it is battery-operated and contains a chip within it. When used, it gives off a mist of liquid coupled with flavorings and nicotine which is inhaled by the smoker and absorbed into the lungs. The e-cigarette is sold with cartridges of nicotine in different doses as well as the flavoring that goes with it.

It hasn’t been able to prove its efficacy as a nicotine replacement therapy and no clinical studies have been presented. The FDA too has some doubts on the safety of the flavorings and other substances that go into the lungs. The nicotine cartridges are toxic to children or pets and are choking hazards.

2. Nicotine Lollipops and Lip Balms – There was a time when products like nicotine lollipops and balms with nicotine salicylate were made in pharmacies. Nicotine salicylate is sweet since it has sugar but the FDA has not approved it as an ingredient in any product. They should not be left exposed to children too as they can be toxic for them.

3. Nicotine Water and Wafers – These do not really serve as tools to help a person quit smoking but as a source of nicotine in places where smoking is not allowed.  Safety issues have been raised on these products as they can be very dangerous to children if accidentally taken.
