Celebrity biographies, be it for A-listers or some of the lesser-known stars in the Hollywood galaxy, are done in various ways. There are the tell-all books penned by the stars themselves (with a little help from writers accorded the recognition “written with”), the segments produced by and shown on gossip and entertainment channels, and those that proliferate online. And then there is such a thing called the “unauthorized biography,” complete with juicy details and incriminating photos.
The latest star to be accorded such a “distinction,” which may sound ironic or even inappropriate given its implications, is Angelina Jolie. Celebrity biographer Andrew Morton, who has written on Diana, Princess of Wales, Monica Lewinsky, and Tom Cruise, among others, recently released an unauthorized biography of Angelina Jolie. And as “unauthorized” biographies go, this one does a reveal on the star’s “shocking” past, albeit through the help of unnamed sources and comments from experts who do not personally know Jolie, as shared in a feature on Perth Now.
Unsurprisingly, there is a portion that talks about drug use; one would think such controversies are practically a staple in celebrity biographies. Morton picks up on a claim made by Angelina Jolie herself, who once said that she was, at one point, fascinated with heroin.
The writer reveals how Jolie used to spend $60 at a time on cocaine and heroin, buying her stash from dealer Frank Meyer. He writes: “On at least one occasion, Marcheline [had] to pick up Angie when she collapsed and was freaking out after taking a psychedelic drug.” Marcheline is Angelina Jolie’s mom.
Angelina reportedly stopped taking drugs when she married her second husband, Billy Bob Thornton.
